FOUNTAINS ABBEY

My latest project was to create an item inspired by Fountains Abbey which would be sold in their shop or taken ideas from to crate an item which would be sold in their shop. We had to create professional outcomes inspired by either the Water Garden or the Abbey ruins itself. I chose the Water Garden and created a satin scarf inspired by the water and the cool tones of the garden. I hand made this by doing machine embroidery and using an embroidery hoop, and hand sewing sequins and beading. I then sewed another colour of satin to the end of the scarf in a lighter shade and then decide to fray this to create a more interesting, professional and expensive overall look to the garment. I really love how this turned out and I really hope this is voted for at the exhibtion. The exhibition is being set up at Fountains itself on Friday 13th January. This is where members of the public will vote for their favourite outcomes from my college for us to be in with the chance of being chosen. I also did a photo shoot with this scarf and will feature the finished photos in a slideshow.

YES, ITS A BIN BAG

The latest project I have completed during my Art & Design course was named "Rock On" which I was given a brief to respond to.

For this project I decided to research into the 70's punk era, and look deeper into recycled fashion incorperating elements of safety pins and staples.

Bin bag dresses had been often used for statements and often featured as short and ripped whichcaused controversy and reflected the care free and rebel era of punk.

The dress I made however, was a mix of recycled 70's punk with the bin bag and the staples, however I also looked at the more glamerous side of this era and took inspiration from designers such as Vivienne Westwood, Moschino and Malcolm Maclaren.

This particular dress by Moschino, which was produced in 1994 was the biggest inspiration for me as I styled my dress similar to this, by making a longer, strapless and fitted dress rather than a shorter style.

As part of our ALG/Industry skills lessons we entered the competition Fe Week and Me, where we had to take a photo of 'My College Week' and send it in. I chose to recreat a Dior image which I found online and decided to recreate. This linked to how at college we have to link our work to and take inspiration from other artists and fashion designers.

I took a first series of images where I was posed as a model, however the second series of images was my friend Joe as the model, the link to his instagram is here. I created contrasting images which worked well together.

The final images I created were slightly different to the original idea however still worked really well. These images created a shock effect and drama. I also love how this links to Dior however in an alternative and different way which takes a different look on fashion and modelling.

I really love how my final image turned out and the lighting and set up worked really effectively. I believe it links to 'My College Week' well as it includes the element of a social life as the phone is in the picture and relates to how college life can be boring even though we are doing many photoshoots and interesting things that your phone will always come first as a teenager.

The link to the competition website is here.

Unfortunatly nobody from our college was in the final which was very dissapointing as we all worked extremely hard..
